12TB NAS - Little update

Written on 09/11/2012 by Patrick Bregman

A little update to the shopping list for my 12TB NAS. Yesterday I've been looking around a bit more online and spent some time researching components. This, combined with my hunt for a good power supply led to a slightly changed shopping list. The full list is below, the changes are:

  • Removed the two SATA SSDs (Intel 320 and Crucial m4) because caching is overkill for now
  • Switched the Zotac mainboard with an Intel Desktop board because of some bad stories about the previous board
  • Changed the PSU to a Super Flower Golden Green because of advice of people who know their way around PSUs

The change of the Zotac motherboard to an Intel did cause me to lose a few fancy functionalities, like the WiFi and the dual GBit LAN ports. I don't really like this because I honestly hoped to toy around a bit with link aggregation using this system and my managed switch, but I prefer energy efficiency over cool features ;)

Without further ado I present to you, my new shopping list!
